Singapore Airlines to offer low-cost travel

Singapore Airlines (SIA) has revealed plans of establishing a new low-cost airline using wide-body aircraft for medium and long-haul routes.

The new low-cost airline will enable Singapore Airlines to compete in the booming low-cost airline segment and meet the growing consumer demand for low cost travel. Goh Choon Phong, CEO, Singapore Airlines, was quoted in as having said that they have observed that low-fare airlines offering short-haul routes within Asia help stimulate demand for travel, and they expect this will also prove true for longer flights.

The new low-cost airline will start its operations within one year and will be wholly owned by Singapore Airlines, but will be operated independently and managed separately from SIA.
