Thailand to boost domestic tourism

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) plans to spend THB75-million for this year’s Thailand Tourism Festival in Bangkok to be held on June 8-12. This move is part of an effort to stimulate domestic tourism spending.

TAT governor Suraphon Svetasreni said that the Thai NTO expected the event to attract some 230,000 Thailand-based local and foreign visitors, which would inject some THB230-million to THB250-million into the local economy, as reported in TTG Asia. TAT holds the annual B2C event, in conjunction with the B2B Thailand Travel Mart, to improve domestic tourism in the country.

The TAT expects Thailand’s tourism industry to earn one-trillion baht in revenue in 2011, THB400-billion of which to come from domestic tourism.
