Japan lures Chinese tourists

The Japanese Government announced its decision to issue multiply-entry visas to individual Chinese tourists to Okinawa Prefecture in southern Japan, starting July 1.

This new development is part of the initiative to attract medium to high income Chinese tourists. According to a report in Japan Today, Japan eased the requirements to issue individual tourist visas to those Chinese tourists with annual incomes from CNY250,000 to CNY60,000 and for those who own gold credit cards. This will enable Chinese tourists to enter Japan as many times as they want during the period of validity of their visa.

As part of its new growth strategy, Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan aims to draw 25-million foreign tourists by early 2020.
