Sri Lanka Unveils Tourism Master Plan

Sri Lanka Tourism is set to launch a five-year master plan to reach its goal of 2.5-million visitors by 2016.


The five-year master plan will outline the next development stage of the Sri Lankan travel industry. Sri Lankan Tourism Chairman Nalaka Godahewa was quoted in TTG Asia as having said that the plan will be a collective set of ideas, visions and goals put forward by industry members, academics and other parties who share an interest in the local tourism industry. Godahewa stressed that it is important for Sri Lanka to develop its service standards and quality of products on offer to become one of the most popular destinations in the world.


In 2010, arrivals to Sri Lanka totaled to 650,000. Sri Lanka aims to achieve 800,000 arrivals for 2011.
