Hawaiian Airlines Pitches in for The Aloha Initiative

Hawaiian Airlines signed up for The Aloha Initiative, a grassroots programme offering relief in Hawaii for families displaced by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Hawaiian Airlines is providing free interisland flights as well as discounted fares between Japan and Honolulu. Hawaiian Airlines President and CEO Mark Dunkerley was quoted in e-Global Travel Media as having said that families affected by the disasters in Japan are facing a long road to recovery and they want to help provide some relief from life in shelters.

The Aloha Initiative was initiated by Maui residents Keith Regan, Lynn Araki-Regan, and Michiko-Lynn Powers, and led by the Japanese Cultural Society of Maui. The programme aims to bring more than 100 affected Japan residents to Hawaii over the next few months, and have these residents stay with host families on Maui and Oahu for up to 90 days. The first group of The Aloha Initiative participants from Japan is expected to arrive in Honolulu on July 5, 2011.
