THAI Expands Fleet

THAI Airways International (THAI) revealed plans to invest THB118.6-billion (US$3.9-billion) on 37 new aircraft as part of an initiative to upgrade its current 11.7 year-old fleet.

 

Out of the total investment, THB49.5-billion is allocated for purchasing six Boeing B777-300ERs and five Airbus A320s scheduled to be delivered between 2014 and 2015, and four A350s to be delivered between 2016 and 2017, as reported in TTG Asia. The remaining THB69.1-billion will be spent to lease out 22 aircraft which consist of six A320s to be delivered between 2012 and 2013, eight B787s to be delivered between 2014 and 2017, and eight A350s to be delivered between 2018 and 2022. The lease is for a 12-year period.

 

The airline is also currently retrofitting 12 existing B747-400s set to be completed between 2011 and 2013.
