VisitBritain Teams Up with American Express

VisitBritain has established a partnership with American Express to promote Britain as a tourist destination.


In line with the new partnership, VisitBritain and its partners can access American Express card members from around the world and provide them with special offers and travel information through American Express’ online portal, UK Inspiration. This online portal will feature exclusive offers and insider knowledge from UK’s most influential bloggers. VisitBritain will contribute destination content, images and blogs to the site. VisitBritain Director of Marketing Laurence Bresh was quoted in as having said that this partnership gives them the opportunity to showcase Britain and to present ideas and offers which encourage potential visitors to travel now. Bresh added that partner marketing deals such as these are key to providing an international platform for tourism destinations and businesses across Britain.

IHG Expands in India

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has unveiled plans of expanding in India, with a target of 150 new hotels in the country by 2020.


The hotel group initially aims to open 46 properties in India within a five-year period. In line with this, IHG has signed a joint venture with Duet India Hotels Group to develop 19 new Holiday Inn Express hotels across the country. IHG Chief Operating Officer for South West Asia Chris Maloney was quoted in Travel Daily India as having said that India is a key market for the group’s strategy. Maloney added that they will be extensively tapping the mid-scale segment opening many more hotels in the tier-II and tier-III cities.


IHG is driving growth in India through four brands such as InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, and Holiday Inn Express. The planned 19 new Holiday Inn Express hotels in India are expected to be operational by 2016, and will be located in major metros and key secondary cities including New Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Chennai, and Bangalore.

Conrad Bangkok Appoints Mercurio as GM

Vincent Mercurio has been appointed as the new General Manager for Conrad Bangkok, effective June 9, 2011.


Before taking the post in Conrad Bangkok, Mercurio was the General Manager of The London West Hollywood in the United States. He brings 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry and has worked in the United States, China, France, Indonesia, Dubai and Spain. According to a report e-Global Travel Media, Mercurio will report directly to Regional General Manager for Thailand Thomas Hoeborn, and will be responsible for hotel operations, including development of the management team, overall vision for all hotel team members, full financial accountability, creating and enforcing business objectives and goals, driving and delivering property wide projects and ensuring the quality and guest experiences that are unique the property and consistent with the Conrad Brand.

Centara Hotels & Resorts Recognised for Excellence

TripAdvisor awarded Centara Hotels & Resorts’ four resort properties with 2011 Certificate of Excellence.


The four resort properties include Centara Villas Phuket, Chen Sea Resort & Spa Fu Quoc, Centara Grand Beach Resort Phuket, and Centara Karon Resort Phuket. The four properties constantly received ‘excellent’ ratings in TripAdvisor from travellers. Centara Hotels & Resorts President Gerd Steeb was quoted in eTurbo News as having said that the reviews and ratings posted on TripAdvisor are from their own guests so they are extremely proud to receive the awards. Steeb added that this recognition endorses the quality of their hotels and service.
