IHG Expands in India

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has unveiled plans of expanding in India, with a target of 150 new hotels in the country by 2020.

The hotel group initially aims to open 46 properties in India within a five-year period. In line with this, IHG has signed a joint venture with Duet India Hotels Group to develop 19 new Holiday Inn Express hotels across the country. IHG Chief Operating Officer for South West Asia Chris Maloney was quoted in Travel Daily India as having said that India is a key market for the group’s strategy. Maloney added that they will be extensively tapping the mid-scale segment opening many more hotels in the tier-II and tier-III cities.

IHG is driving growth in India through four brands such as InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, and Holiday Inn Express. The planned 19 new Holiday Inn Express hotels in India are expected to be operational by 2016, and will be located in major metros and key secondary cities including New Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Chennai, and Bangalore.
