Qatar Airways: Official Airline of 98th Tour de France

Qatar Airways has been appointed as the official airline of the 98th Tour de France that will be held on July 2-24, 2011.


As the official airline of the Tour de France, Qatar Airways will fly all competing cyclists from the city of Grenoble, France to Paris Orly International Airport on July 24 before the cyclists disembark for the final stage of the race. Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker was quoted in as having said that Qatar Airways is delighted to support the world’s greatest cycling event and is proud to be associated with this prestigious international sporting competition. Al Baker added that the airline has a strong affiliation with cycling both in Qatar and around the globe and their sponsorship of the Tour de France is an excellent way of reinforcing their passion for this sport.

IHG Releases iPhone Apps for its Hotel Brands

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has launched iPhone booking apps for each of its seven brands. This is in line with its ongoing mobile app strategy that will enable customers to find and book hotel rooms, check rates and view or cancel reservation through their mobile devices.


The new iPhone booking app is now available for InterContinental Hotels & resorts, Hotel Indigo, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts, Holiday Inn Hotels and Resorts, Holiday Inn Express, Staybridge Suites, and Candlewood Suites. The iPhone apps follows the successful release of the InterContinental Concierge Insider Guides app for iPad in December of 2010, the Priority Club Rewards app for Android in July of 2010, and the Priority Club Rewards app for iPhone in April 2010. IHG Web and Interactive Marketing Vice President Michael Menis was quoted in eGlobal Travel Media as having said that they are continuing to build their mobile strategy by making their brands more accessible to today’s travellers who seek solutions that assist them through every step of the travel planning process.


IHG recently won TravelCom’s Mobile Marketer of the Year, Web Marketing Association’s Best Mobile Travel Application in the Interactive Advertising Competition, and Atlanta Interactive Marketing Association’s ‘Most Effective Mobile Campaign’.

Expedia and Kempinski Hotels Strengthen Partnership

Expedia Inc unveiled its new multi-year, global partnership agreement with Kempinski Hotels, strengthening the two companies’ long-standing relationship.


Expedia Inc Vice President of Global Strategic Accounts Melissa Maher was quoted in eGlobal Travel Media as having said that their partnership with Kempinski Hotels truly enhances their luxury lodging offerings in exotic destinations like Dubai, Bangkok and Jakarta. Maher added that they are pleased to support Kempinski with innovative marketing and distribution strategies that will help them advance their business objectives.


Through this partnership, Kempinski’s over 60 luxury properties will be made available on more than 100 Expedia and travel bookings sites worldwide. The Kempinski properties will also be available through Egencia, Hotwire and more than 10,000 Expedia Affiliate Network sites.
