Centara Expands in Pattaya

Centara Hotels & Resorts announced the opening of their two new hotels in Pattaya, The Nova Hotel & Spa Pattaya and the Centra Pattaya Resort. The two new additions bring Centara’s properties in Pattaya to three.

 

The Nova Hotel & Spa Pattaya is a part of the Centara Boutique Collection brand whereas the Centra Pattaya Resorts adds to the Centra Hotels & Resorts midscale brand. Central Plaza Hotel Public Co Ltd Chairman of the Executive Board, Suthikiati Chirathivat, was quoted in Travel Daily Asia as having said that they have been delighted with the response to the five-star Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya, and their two new hotels are strategically in the four-star and mid-range hotels. Chirathivat added that Pattaya has tremendous tourism growth potential for Centara and they are confident in the future of their two newly developed properties.

Malaysia Offers Bird’s Eye View Tour

Malaysia has introduced the 1Malaysia Helicopter Tour Packages to cater to various tourist interests and budgets.

 

Malaysia Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Cr Ng Yen Yen was quoted in Travel Daily Asiaas having said that the helicopter tour packages are expected to attract more high-yield tourists, which in turn will increase the tourism industry’s contribution to the Malaysian economy. The helicopter tour will provide tourists with a bird’s eye view of the Malaysia’s historical landmarks, cities, buildings, villages, and plantations.

 

The high-end tour service will be made available through six travel agencies. The tours are available in 15, 30 to 60-minute period and prices ranges from MYR1,250 to MYR 4,950. The helicopters can accommodate three to six people.

VisitBritain Launches BritAgent Programme

VisitBritain unveiled its BritAgent online training programme designed to help agents worldwide to promote the events happening in 2012 as well as the events during the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The national tourism agency developed ‘Great Britain You’re Invited – 2012’ to provide agents with specialised product and destination knowledge to better promote Britain as the place to visit in 2012.

 

The training programme will cover details of all Olympic events as well as cover topics such as accommodation and transport during the 2012 Games. It will also provide ideas on activities and sights to see across the UK. VisitBritain Director of Strategy and Communications Patrick Yates was quoted as having said that this programme is an important part of their efforts to tell the world that Britain is the place to be next year. Yates added that they hope that the ‘Great Britain You’re Invited – 2012’ training programme will become a vital tool to help their travel partners manage the visitor demand they anticipate over the coming years and that it will help increase the level of service they can provide.

Starwood Unveils Global Trade Campaign

Starwood Hotels & Resorts has introduced its new campaign aimed to educate travel trade in its resorts. The course is called ‘Reveal a World of Possiblities’, and is set to commence this week with a six-minute video that focuses on Starwood’s portfolio. The video will be online until August 8, 2011.

 

Agents who complete the course will be given 10 resort credit certificates worth US$25 each to give to customers. The certificates will be personalised to the agency and can be used on bookings made through GDS, call centre, online or tour operators for travel period September 1, 2011 to March 31, 2012. Starwood Vice President for Global Retail Leisure and Luxury Sales Chris Austin was quoted inTravel Daily India as having said that by participating in this exciting, new learning burst, travel professionals will not only learn more about their resorts but also be able to surprise and delight their customers with a special resort credit for their next vacation.

IHG Appoints New CFO

IHG Appoints New CFO

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has selected Tom Singer as Chief Financial Officer to the Board and Executive Committee. The appointment will be take effect on September 26, 2011.

 

Prior to joining IHG, Singer served as Group Finance Director for global healthcare group BUPA since 2008. He worked with William Hill for five years before that initially as Group Finance Director and later on as Chief Operating Officer, and took the private equity-owned business public.

 

Singer takes over the CFO role from Richard Solomons, who is now the Chief Executive, effective July 1, 2011. Solomons was quoted in AsiaTravelTips.com as having said that with Singer’s track record of working across a broad range of sectors to drive positive change, he is a welcome addition to the IHG team.

Munich Airport Gets Green Light for Third Runway

The Munich Airport operating company, FMG, secured approval for the construction of a third runway at the airport. The approval was granted by the District Government of Upper Bavaria.

 

FMG CEO Dr Michael Kerkloh was quoted as having said that the expansion of Munich Airport to meet growing demand and the resulting increase in available flights and destinations will benefit the population and economy of Bavaria.

 

The planned third runway is deemed to provide Bavaria direct access to the world’s key markets and will generate new job opportunities to a growing workforce of 30,000 employees, making it the largest workplace in Bavaria.

 

The passenger volume in Munich Airport has increased substantially since it first opened its doors in 1992. Last year, the passenger volume at the airport reached an estimated 35 million passengers and carried out 390,000 take-offs and landings. Munich Airport now caters to over 220 destinations in 68 countries around the world.

Travelport solidifies partnership with Frontier Airlines with a new multi-year, full content agreement. The agreement enables the airline to make its published fares and seat inventory available to all Travelport-connected travel agents and subscribers globally as well as offline travel agencies and online agencies booking through Travelport.
