Philippines to Boost International Arrivals

The Department of Tourism (DOT) of the Philippines is set to increase international arrivals to 6.5-million and over 32-million domestic travellers by 2016.

To reach the 6.5-million international arrivals target, the DOT is focusing on improving “access and connectivity”. Tourism Secretary Alberto Lim was quoted in eTurbo News as having said that they are pushing hard for the rapid expansion of secondary international airports, and address traffic bottlenecks at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Lim also reported that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is planning a strategic access infrastructure development programme between the secondary international airports and strategic destinations for easy transport. Lim added that DOT is also working with various government agencies and local government units to develop and market competitive tourist destinations and products, with a goal of having one town, one product.

The DOT aims to attract foreign tourists to see the ‘undiscovered treasures’ of the Philippines.
