South Korea Gears Up for 2018 Winter Olympics

South Korea is set to take on a US$8.4-billion development plan to prepare for the 2018 Winter Olympics. The government is drawing up plans for a new high-speed rail network and a winter sports complex.

Organisers plan to allocate US$3.7-billion on a high-speed rail service that will connect the central city of Wonju to the host cities Pyeongchang and Gangneung, and US$1.4-million will be allocated for six athletics tracks, hotels and media facilities, as reported in Travel Daily Asia. To continue to profit from the Olympic venues even after the Game have come and gone, the winter sports venue is expected to host millions of Chinese tourists every year.
