Be Wary of Fictitious Cheques

A few months ago, PATA, as well as our bank,  Bank of the West,  received phone enquiries regarding fictitious cheques issued allegedly by PATA. PATA has since then closed the account (account no: 773030408), following the advice of the bank.

Macau Tourist Arrivals Surge

Macau draws more tourists as evidenced by a rise in visitor arrivals. The visitor arrivals to Macau have grown by 18% year-on-year to 2.55 million in July 2011. According to the Statistics and Census Service, same-day visitors accounted for 51.9% of total visitor arrivals.

 

There has been notable increase in the number of visitors from Hong Kong by 7.3% to 720,000, Taiwan by 4.1% to 126,000, South Korea by 23.6% to 35,000, and Malaysia by 16.4% to 21,000. The number of visitors from mainland China has also seen a significant increase by 27.9% year-on-year to 1.46 million. Visitors from the mainland are mostly from Guangdong, Fujian and Zhejiang, as reported in eTurbo News.

Cathay Pacific Introduces Premium Economy

Cathay Pacific is all set to launch a premium economy cabin on its fleet, beginning second quarter of 2012. The new economy cabin will be made available on the airline’s ultra long and medium haul routes, including Australia.

 

Cathay Pacific Chief Executive, John Slosar, was quoted in eTravel Blackboard Australia as having said that the new offering would be a real upgrade over economy. Slosar added that the new offer will provide a seat more like regional business class seats with great recline and plenty of leg space, as well offer an improved meal service.

Centara Hotels & Resorts has made it easier for travel agents, tour operators and event planners and buyers to access information and support service by upgrading their website. The website improvements are unveiled together with the launch of Centara’s new corporate website that is designed to strengthen the company’s online presence and marketing operations.

 

Centara Hotels & Resorts Vice President for Sales and Marketing, Chris Bailey, was quoted in eTurbo News as having said that their new corporate website is more user-friendly, informative, and modern in its design, and reflects the direction in which the company is moving in terms of expansion and image. United and Continental Resume Flights After Hurricane

United and Continental Airlines are set to resume flight departures today at New York airports. The John F Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport have closed down on Saturday and Sunday due to bad weather conditions caused by Hurricane Irene.

 

According to a report inAsiaTravelTips.com, United and Continental cancelled 2,265 flights on August 27 and 28, and pre-cancelled an additional 437 flights for August 29 due to the hurricane that has hit the US East Coast. The airlines’ will resume service in other airports along the East Coast, including White Plains, New York; Boston Massachusetts; Hartford, Connecticut; Rode Island, Portland, Maine; Manchester, New Hampshire; and Albany, New York.

 

The hurricane’s aftermath is expected to cause additional delays and cancellations of flights to the region. United and Continental urges passengers to check their flight status at the carriers’ websites before heading to the airport.

Emirates Adds Flights to Japan

Starting November 1 this year, Emirates will operate two extra flights a week between Dubai and Narita International Airport in Japan.

 

Emirates’ Senior Vice President for Commercial Operations, Far East & Australasia, Richard Jewsbury, was quoted in AsiaTravelTips.com as having said that Japan is a vital market for Emirates and being able to increase the flights to a daily operation is a great testament to the partnership which has existed since they began operations to Japan, through Osaka, nine years ago. Jewsbury added that Emirates has been committed to helping Japan through this period of recovery and they appreciate that the Japanese authorities have recognised this commitment and allowed the airline to operate this daily service.

 

Emirates will use a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft in these daily flights. It will depart Dubai at 2:50 am and arrive at Narita International Airport at 5:35 pm the same day. The return flight will depart Narita at 10:00 pm and will arrive in Dubai at 3:50 am the following day.

Tourism New Zealand Joins the Weibo Wagon

Tourism New Zealand has started to utilise Weibo, China’s version of Twitter, to attract Chinese tourists to visit the country.

 

Tourism NZ has appointed Yao Chen, China’s most followed microblogger, as its brand ambassador in the Mainland. Yao caught the attention of more than 10.9 million followers on Sina Weibo. Yao went on a promotional trip to New Zealand under the marketing campaign ‘100 Hours: Chen Yao Revives Your Emotions’. Yao showed her followers New Zealand’s sights through attached photos in her entries.

 

Tourism NZ General Manager Asia Markets, Mark Frood, was quoted in eTurbo News as having said that they believe that Yao’s influence will help raise Chinese tourists’ interest in their country and encourage them to experience New Zealand first-hand.
