Costa Cruises Sails Back to Japan

Costa Cruises have resumed their Japan itineraries from August to October 2011. Costa Classica, home-ported in Shanghai and carries up to 1,680 passengers, will conduct 12 trips to Japan and South Korea, including five-day cruises from Shanghai to Fukuoka and Jeju from August 26 to September 23; a seven-day cruise from Shanghai to Busan, Fukuoka, Kagoshima on October 1; and a six-day cruise from Shanghai to Fukuoka, Nagasaki and Jeju on October 7.

Next year, the Italian cruise line plans to expand its operations in the region, deploying the 2,394 passenger Costa Victoria to replace Costa Classica. Costa Victoria will sail to new destinations in Japan, including Hososhima/Miyazaki, Wakayama, Osaka, Yokohama, and Tokyo. Costa Cruises’ Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Asia Pacific operations, Dario Rustico, was quoted in Travel Daily Asia as having said that this expansion plan demonstrates Costa Cruises’ commitment toward the region and in particular toward Japan both as an appreciated destination as well as a source market.
