United and Continental Airlines are set to resume flight departures today at New York airports. The John F Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport have closed down on Saturday and Sunday due to bad weather conditions caused by Hurricane Irene.
According to a report inAsiaTravelTips.com, United and Continental cancelled 2,265 flights on August 27 and 28, and pre-cancelled an additional 437 flights for August 29 due to the hurricane that has hit the US East Coast. The airlines’ will resume service in other airports along the East Coast, including White Plains, New York; Boston Massachusetts; Hartford, Connecticut; Rode Island, Portland, Maine; Manchester, New Hampshire; and Albany, New York.
The hurricane’s aftermath is expected to cause additional delays and cancellations of flights to the region. United and Continental urges passengers to check their flight status at the carriers’ websites before heading to the airport.
